Privacy Policy

AppealKit is a self-service tool that helps homeowners check whether their county is over-assessing their property and prepare an appeal. We are not a law firm or tax advisor and do not provide legal or tax advice. Using AppealKit does not create an attorney-client relationship.

We collect only what we need to run your check and prepare your appeal:

• Property information you enter — your address, home characteristics (size, year built, condition, etc.), and your county-assessed value.
• Account information — if you create an account to file, your email address. The free check needs no account or email.
• Technical information — an anonymous identifier we store in a cookie so we can show you your result, plus standard request data (such as IP address) used to operate and protect the service.

Some property details are retrieved on your behalf from public records and address-lookup services when you run a check. We do not ask for, and ask that you not provide, sensitive information such as your date of birth or government ID.

We use your information to:

• Run the over-assessment check and show you the result;
• Prepare your appeal form, evidence, and (for the hearing packet) a script;
• Save your appeal and, if you opt in, re-check your property each year;
• Take payment when you buy an appeal kit;
• Operate, secure, and improve the service, and protect against bots and abuse.

We share information only with the service providers that help us run AppealKit, and only so they can provide their service to us. These include hosting (Vercel), our database and authentication (Supabase), address autocomplete (Google), public-records lookups, bot protection (Cloudflare Turnstile), and payment processing (Stripe). We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights and users.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We never take a percentage of your savings, and we don’t make money by selling your data.

We use a small number of strictly functional cookies — including an anonymous identifier that lets us show you your check result without making you log in, and cookies used by our hosting and bot-protection providers. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

We keep your check and any saved appeal for as long as needed to provide the service — typically while your account is active. You can ask us to delete your information at any time (see “Your choices”), and we keep payment records only as long as needed for accounting and legal purposes.

You can ask us to access, correct, or delete the information we hold about you through our contact form. We honor these requests for all users, and we won’t treat you differently for making one. Because we don’t sell or share your information, there is nothing to opt out of on that front.

AppealKit is intended for adult homeowners and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13.

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit and access controls. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure, but you can read more about how we protect data on our security page.

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we’ll change the “last updated” date above, and for material changes we’ll post a notice on the site.
